The America-Israel Friendship League (AIFL) celebrated its 45th Anniversary Thursday, November 10, 2016, during its annual Partners for Democracy Awards Dinner at The Plaza Hotel in New York City. Adam Shapiro, FOX Business Network Correspondent was the Emcee for the evening.
AIFL’s extraordinary contributions towards strengthening the relationship between the U.S. and Israel were outlined in a time-line featured in the dinner journal. This 45 years of Israel advocacy by the AIFL was reinforced during the remarks delivered by Ambassador Dani Dayan, Consul General of Israel to New York.
Henry A. Kissinger was honored for his lifelong career in public service as well as his strong commitment to enhancing the friendship between the United States and Israel. He was awarded AIFL’s highest honor, the Partners for Democracy Award and participated in a discussion on Israeli-American policy, global politics and public diplomacy with Elizabeth “Lally” Weymouth, well-known American journalist and Senior Associate Editor of the Washington Post and Ambassador Dan Gillerman, Israel’s 13th Permanent Representative to the United Nations and the Chairman of the AIFL in Israel. Both Ms. Weymouth and Ambassador Gillerman are past recipients of the AIFL Partners for Democracy Award.
“The support for Israel throughout the world is diminishing; sadly, this is also true within the Jewish community in the U.S. Further, despite recent events, which clearly demonstrate that the war on terror is a worldwide struggle, Israel continues to lose international support and impact, including with its traditional supporters. We honor Henry Kissinger for his outstanding contribution to the world and to the Jewish people.” said Kenneth J. Bialkin, AIFL Chairman.
