Jerusalem: An Art Lab of Connectivity

Over the past decade, a group of artists from east and west Jerusalem have reimagined the city as not merely a center of conflict, but rather a canvas of creativity for multiple generations. Mekudeshet, an awards winning arts organization, started its activities with a public festival of the arts providing street venues, in unique settings in Jerusalem, to celebrate the richness of its diversity. Over time, this festival has emerged as a meeting place for artists, art enthusiasts and lovers of Jerusalem from every quarter.

This webinar will share some of the original artistic contributions and connections that have been forged as a result of this creative energy and effort. Panelists will include a Co-Founder of Mekudeshet in dialogue with their Director for East Jerusalem and Palestinian Community Relations as well as the lead singer of an indie rock band, born and bred in the Armenian Quarter. The panel will discuss their guiding principles, which include:

We love Jerusalem.
We understand everything in the city is complicated.
We are convinced that art can trailblaze new paths and create points of connection between ideas and communities that are theoretically disconnected.
We believe that art can open hearts and bring about positive change in the city that is sacred to us all.

Streamed from the United States and Israel, the program will feature:
