Gaps and Gains in Women’s Healthcare

While all men and women are created equal that does not mean their health needs are the same. For example, research now makes clear that detection and care for cardiovascular conditions can vary significantly based on gender. Even in other specialized areas, such as treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease, there are considerations specific to women, such as pregnancy, that can require a different approach. We have assembled a panel of leading medical professionals, and women’s health policy advocates, for an open discussion about the challenges of diagnosis, treatment and awareness of women’s health concerns. The panel will discuss both promising new treatments for breast cancer as well as the continuing challenges of education and access across different demographics. Among the topics to be covered are: The need for early detection and greater awareness campaignsProviding access and education to vulnerable populationsInnovative partnerships to promote women’s healthImprovement in medical treatment for previously considered terminal diagnosesChallenges around cultural and religious taboos Streamed live from Israel and the United States, the program will feature: Dr. Bella Koifman, M.D.Director, Women’s Heart Clinic, Department of CardiologyTel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center Dr. Moshe CarmonHead of The Breast Unit, General SurgeryShaare Zedek Medical Center Dr. Jennifer VerbeseyDirector of the Living Donor Kidney Transplant ProgramMedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute Andrea Wolf, Esq.CEOBrem Foundation to Defeat Breast Cancer Meredith JacobsCEO Jewish Women International Ruby ShamirExecutive DirectorAmerica-Israel Friendship League (Israel) ICONS is a partnership of Jewish Women International (JWI) and the America-Israel Friendship League (AIFL).
