Birds Know No Boundaries: Has the Barn Owl Replaced the Dove of Peace?

Although spring is soon coming to an end, birds’ spring migration still in full force. Our program will focus on one bird, the Barn Owl. This bird of prey is at the heart of a groundbreaking partnership that uses these natural predators as pest control agents in agricultural fields in the Middle East. What began with an unusual gift of fifteen Barn Owls in 1982 to Israeli ornithologist, Professor Yossi Leshem of Tel Aviv University, birthed The Barn Owl Project in 2002, a collaborative effort between Israelis, Jordanians and Palestinians. COVID-19 Vaccination: Vision, Policies and Lessons Learned in Israel and the United States

Israel's COVID-19 vaccination rollout was a dramatic success. The country's COVID-19 infection rate was initially one of the worst globally. Now more than 90% of adults 50 and older are fully vaccinated and over 60% of their total population is fully vaccinated. The success is attributed to consistent public trust in the government, a centralized health system and a highly developed health information technology system. The vaccination campaign in the United States is a coordinated and primarily decentralized approach. States lead the effort with autonomy to decide how to distribute and prioritize doses. Demand initially exceeded supply now, over half of U.S adults are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and children 12 and older are eligible to receive the vaccine. Join us for a candid discussion with policymakers from Israel and the United States who were on the frontlines of the pandemic on: What lessons can we learn from the rollout in Israel and the United States? Can states replicate successful systems or models? How can we cultivate and build public trust in our government institutions during times of national crisis? How can we comprehensively address equity in inoculations among diverse communities across the US and Israel?
