|New York, NY, June 22, 2017: The America-Israel Friendship League (AIFL) is pleased to announce that the Board of Directors, at its most recent meeting, elected Mr. Joel I. Klein as AIFL President. Mr. Klein replaces Kenneth J. Bialkin who has served as both Chairman and President of the organization since 2013. Mr. Bialkin will remain as AIFL Chairman of the Board, a position he has held since 1995.
Mr. Klein is currently the Chief Policy and Strategy Officer at Oscar Health. He has served as EVP at News Corporation; CEO at Amplify, an education technology company and as Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education where he oversaw a system of over 1,600 schools with 1.1 million students, 136,000 employees and a $22 billion budget.
Mr. Klein was also Chairman and CEO of Bertelsmann, Inc., a media company; served as Assistant U.S. Attorney General in charge of the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice; and was Deputy White House Counsel to President Clinton (1993 – 1995), a position he accepted after 20 years of public and private legal work in Washington, D.C.

At the same meeting, Ms. Daniella Rilov, AIFL Executive Director, was elected to the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the organization. Daniella is leaving the employ of the AIFL to head a dynamic Israeli startup.
Mr. Bialkin expressed his appreciation for all her devotion to the organization. “Daniella is beloved” said Bialkin. “We wish her great success in her professional endeavors, and we are happy and very thankful that she will remain active with the AIFL as a lay leader.”
William H. Behrer, III who has been with the AIFL since 1984, will serve as Acting Executive Director. Behrer retired from the AIFL in 2010 after serving as its COO from 2005 to 2010. He rejoined the staff in late 2014 as a consultant and currently serves as Director of Planning and Communication.
