“The America-Israel Friendship League (AIFL) condemns the ongoing violence and deaths perpetrated by Hamas terrorism. The AIFL community stands with the Israeli people during this difficult period in which many friends, family and colleagues live under the threat of continued violence and trauma from the torment of Hamas missile attacks that are forcing civilian populations, yet again, to live in fear of additional violence.

The AIFL leadership is also saddened to announce the tragic news of the death of one of our student participants in the AIFL Youth Ambassador Technology Exchange (YATE) program -- Naden Awad from Ort Arab High School for Science and Engineering in Lod, Israel. Naden and her father were killed in a Hamas rocket attack last week. We have been working with the five participant American schools in the United States and in Israel alongside our partner, Tovanot B’hinuch, to provide grief counseling resources immediately to the students and to plan for the school communities to come together to memorialize her death and the loss of a bright star.

“Naden’s participation in the YATE program exemplified the nature of the bridges that our organization is building, across countries and across communities. Such bridges of friendship and personal communications create the tolerance and acceptance that are in so much need today,” said Jonathan Barsade, President of AIFL’s Board. This is a horrific development for Naden’s friends and family from the Israeli Arab community and her new friends in Israel and the United States. Her vibrance and her energy will be sorely missed.”

“We hold Naden’s memory and loss in our hearts and prayers, even as additional rocket sirens sound though out Israel. We mourn the loss of all Israelis during this period and pray for peace and the long-term benefits of friendship,” said Ambassador Dan Gillerman, Chairman of the Board of AIFL Israel.”
